A day to celebrate young carers

Young carers are incredible resourceful people who most of the time know what to do. They cook, clean, accompany, calm, listen, advocate for others, speak up and entertain siblings.

They resolve and they create. Young carers are talented children and young people who develop fantastic skills and resilience. They need to be seen, listened to, and supported and by thinking young carer we can achieve that and enable them to thrive.

And now is the time to celebrate these brilliant children and young people.

You can sign up a young carer for the Young Carers Fun Day at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre on Monday 16 March below.

Schools have been informed about this Fun Day and any young carer attending will be marked as an authorised absence from school.

Important: Parents and carers must inform the school in advance that their young carer will be attending the Fun Day.

Safeguarding

To safeguard participants, we are doing the following:

There will always be at least one member of staff with young carers at all times.
Young carers are not allowed to walk off on their own.
There will be a register of young carers booked for the Fun Day. If your child has not booked the activity or you have not completed the agreement form, your child will not be able to attend or take part.
If your child has any food allergies or allergic reactions, you must let us know before the Fun Day. If parents fail to inform us of any allergies or allergic reactions, parents will accept full responsibility for any reactions. Swimming

There will be an opportunity for young carers to take part in swimming on the day.
Young carers must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres to participate.
All young carers will be assessed at the start of the session to confirm they can swim 25 metres.
Any young carer who cannot swim 25 metres will be asked to leave the pool and will not be able to continue with the swimming activity.

Throughout the Young Carers Fun Day, photographs, videos, voice recordings and/or interviews or case studies may be taken to document the day and for use in promotional materials.

The activity may still be recorded even if permission is not given; however, your child’s image or contribution will not be used if consent is not provided.

You understand that photographs, videos, voice recordings and/or interviews or case studies may be featured in:

Printed media (e.g. reports, printed publications, newspapers and promotional materials, including any related social or online media)
Social and online media (e.g. e‑publications, websites, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X and YouTube)

Full names will not be displayed during the event or on any of the materials or platforms listed above.

To comply with data protection regulations, we require your permission before taking or using photographs, videos, voice recordings or interviews/case studies of your child. If you do not give consent, your child will still be able to participate fully in the activity, and any images, videos, recordings or interviews involving your child will not be used.
