Help at school
Barnet has an estimated 6,500 young carers. They are of all ages ranging from 5 through to 17. The tasks and level of caring undertaken by young carers can vary according to the nature of the illness or disability, the level and frequency of need for care, and the structure of the family as a whole.
Some young carers are known to their schools. Many more are invisible and only come on to the schools radar because of one too many absences or behavioural difficulties.
We want to help schools improve the identification of young carers, enhance the understanding of the issues that these children and young people face, and go some way to show how their needs can be met.
We believe that young carers can be supported to ensure that their education does not take second place to their caring responsibilities.
If you are a young carer or the parent of a young carer you can refer in to our programme. Register with us today and get the support that you need.
